  • Reluctant Defeat

Reluctant defeat. After a 3-star review for the first book, I had hope that the second would finally have the substance to captivate me. Unfortunately, it did not. I pushed through the first several hundred pages with boredom to eventually come to a point of reluctant defeat. Another book with hollow substance, and a lot of blah blah blah. A difficult place for one who rarely gives up on a book, but with an infinite number of enjoyable books, I could no longer sacrifice my time on this one.

  • The Time of Contempt - A good continuation!

I am thoroughly enjoying this series. It fleshes in or perhaps I should say, reading this first will make the TV series based on this story soooooo much better. I am happy that I learned of this author and these books. I've bought them all and have not been disappointed at all in the story telling. It's truly a fun read and enjoyable read!

  • Great Character Moments

Another great book filled with adventure and action. The book was dark and intense and the ending makes me want to dive straight into the next book. All of the characters were given more time to grow and each had their own powerful moment. The villains were a little more intense and the events with the Wizard Council were wild and slightly terrifying. While I continued to love Geralt's adventures, I still have to confess that Ciri is my favourite. Her encounter in the desert was spectacular, and I can't wait to see where she goes with her arc. I'm honestly having a great time reading these books and seeing all these conspiracies and characters enter dark, dangerous scenarios. I look forward to all these characters crossing paths with one another yet again!

  • Highs and Lows

Overall an interesting novel with riveting backstory, dialogue and political intrigue. There are low points that are difficult to get through if you aren't interested in the politics involved or the history of the land. Sapkow, while eloquent at times, has a way of rambling.

  • Intriguing

The jump from the present to the recent past is still disconcerting. But the style becoming familiar. Hard to follow the plots but I'm now invested in the characters.
